Conservation Week
The posters DOC sent us were the base for this display. The two outer panels were about Conservation Week and the middle panel about Clean-Up Week, a topic that was linked to Conservation Week.
What you need:
- DOC posters
- Google images/book/Nat Geographic images
- coloured paper for the background
- rubbish (collected from the campus)
- tools: blu-tack/stapler/tape/guillotine/scissors/ glue stick/ruler
What to do:
I covered the two outer panels with the DOC posters and filled the background with green paper. The posters were a bit overlapping and I cut off the brown edges which I used to create a frame around printed information from the website (see: display tips). That way the information really matched well with the posters.
There was a lot of information on the website about what we could do to help with the projects DOC organized. Just printing it and attaching it would be too much information to take in at once. Nobody reads that amount of information (see: International Baccalaureate display). I cut the information in digestible batches and highlighted the curling edge with a yellow marker while I looked for matching images in books and in National Geographic magazines.
Clean-Up Week is all about rubbish; our rubbish that we often carelessly drop. The College maintenance team keeps the campus very tidy but it is amazing what you can find after one interval. Clean-Up Week is not only about a far away project that we can do. It is about what we can do here and now in our own environment. I collected rubbish from the campus during a 20 minute stroll and attached it to the board. Empty food containers, bottles, a half eaten apple and biscuits in resealable bags, chips bags, candy bar papers, and so on.
I printed the posters from the Clean-Up Week website and enlarged and printed the logo ‘Keep New Zealand Beautiful’ dozens of times to make a border around the posters on the board.
The Clean-Up Week panel in the middle was a nice contrast with the two Conservation Week panels on the outside and at the same time it fitted in perfectly.
