International Baccalaureate

International Baccalaureate displayTo promote the IB the College is offering to students, we had a package of pages full of text with only a few images. It would take at least an hour to read. To attract the students’ attention we had to deliver the information in attractive and bite size portions otherwise interest would soon be gone. Reading it at a table would challenge their concentration let alone standing in front of a wall.

What you need:

  • information package
  • coloured paper- card
  • styrofoam
  • Google images
  • blu-tack/stapler/tape/guillotine/scissors/ruler/cotton/pen/pins

What to do:

International Baccalaureate display hexagonThe main picture was a blue hexagon, divided in different sections resembling the papers that can be studied. I enlarged  and copied that image and cut it in pieces and subsequently copied it to coloured card. The headings were enlarged, copied and printed on blue paper which I pasted on yellow card. I copied the website address on different coloured card and scanned the internet for images that resembled the characteristics IB students need to have to be successful and which would add a bit of fun to the display. I  printed the characteristics also on different coloured card.

International Baccalaureate display hexagon; characteristicsTo get the sheets, images and text exactly in a vertical line I used a pin, cotton and a weight and blu-tack (see: display tips) tied to the end and attached it at the top of  the board. I then followed the cord to the bottom while stapling the sheets, card and pictures. It’s much easier than constantly using a ruler.

International Baccalaureate display hexagon;two-headsTwo heads were the next significant images. Again I enlarged them and pasted them on styrofoam to make them stand out from the board.

All the information needed to form an opinion can be read on this board in the 14 pages I used.   It is a colourful, attractive and informative display.

  2. [...] – Use the ‘pin-cotton and blu-tack’ technique to hang poster exactly vertical on a board. Take a string of cotton (requiered length) and attach it to a pin. Kneed a little ball (size dollar)  and attach it at the bottom end of the cotton. When you want to hang posters exactly in line you push the pin in the board and wait til the cotton stops moving. Push the blu-tack against the surface. Now you can follow the line to attach posters and images  under each other (see: International Baccalaureate display) [...]
